            Pellon 810 Tru-Grid                                   1 ¼ yard

            Flowers                                                         ¼ yard

Flower Centers                                           1/8 yard or a large scrap

            Leaves                                                          ¼ yard

            Stem                                                              2 strips 1 ¼” x at least 10”

Background, backing and binding       1 1/8 yard

            Batting                                                          1 strip 15” x 40”

            Freezer Paper                                              ½ yard

NOTE:  Your binding could be cut from one of the fabrics you plan to use for the

Straw or appliqué needles

Straw needles are recommended for better control of your appliqué stitches

Large and small fabric scissors

Small curved-tipped scissors are useful but not necessary

Appliqué or silk pins

Permanent fine-line felt tip marker

Roxeanne’s Glue with needle tip applicator

Threads to match the appliqué fabrics for your flowers, leaves and stems

50 weight threads, cotton or silk, are best

Match the color as closely as you can

Your cut out appliqué shapes – see instructions below

Cutting Instructions:

Before you come to class, please prepare your Background, Backing and Binding fabrics as follows:

Background (for your appliqué)                             1 piece 12 ½” x WOF (Width of Fabric)

Backing                                                                     1 piece 15” x WOF

Binding                                                                      3 strips 2 ½” x WOF

Mark the background and backing cuts, if they are from the same fabric so you do not confuse them.  Lightly press a fold vertically down the center of your background fabric piece.

Preparation of Appliqué Elements:

Using the attached Template sheet

Make a photocopy of this sheet if you would like to preserve it for use again.

Trace onto freezer paper and cut out:

3 flowers

                        3 flower centers

                        8 leaves

Reminder: Use paper scissors to cut the shapes out of your freezer paper.

Iron these freezer paper shapes onto the right side of each fabric – flowers, center, and leaves.  Then cut them out of your fabric.  Also cut the center hole in each Flower element.  Leave the freezer paper in place.

You have already cut your stem pieces to the size you will need.  Carefully press a

¼” seam under on each long side of both stem pieces.

You might want to place all of these pieces in a zip top bag to keep them organized prior to class.
