Fabric-please bring a wide variety of scraps (6 inch square) in the green
family and colors of flowers of your choice. Some solid, small prints,
mottled, colorwashed, textured-the more the merrier.
Be prepared to swap and trade with classmates it makes for
great fun! All other supplies are provided and variety of tools and notions
will be available for the students to experiment with.

Most of these items are available to borrow or buy in the shop.

A fat quarter (or larger if desired) of a pastel solid, muslin or
subtle white on white for your background fabric. Dark colors will also
work - for a different effect.

Floral print fabric(s) in large enough scale to make it possible to
cut the designs out easily for your appliqué.

Other fabrics as desired - butterflies, birds, other animals, any
motif you want to appliqué and build into your wall hanging. Other
solids or subtle prints for accents.

18”-24” ruler and or rotary cutting rule

Scissors - both large and small. Small curved blade scissors are
especially nice for cutting out the appliqué motifs.

Chalk or other marking tool(s) - whatever you like to work with.

Hand sewing kit, including needles with large eyes for embroidery.

At least 1/2 yard of fusible bond.

Teflon pressing sheet (click on the picture to order)

Embroidery thread(s) to match prints or background fabric.

Butterfly Stars
Please come to class with your strips precut as shown below. You can
substitute fat quarters for yardage if you like the scrappy look

Cheese and Crackers

Fabric requirements for the lap sized (55" x 67") quilt we
will make in class: 10 fat quarters of various colors, 2 yards of
background, prewashed and ironed.
-
To make the class go faster, please precut 6 of your 10 fat quarters
into three 5 1/2" X 20" strips. Cut the remaining 4 fat
quarters into two 5 1/2" X 20" strips and two 3" X
20" strips. Cut your background into three strips 5 1/2" x
40", nine strips 3" x 40" and five strips 4 1/2" x
40"

Machine Quilting Class
-
Clean oiled machine with bed extension if you have one. Before you buy
one, try your local glass shop. They may be able to custom cut an
acrylic one for you. If not, we can order one from Quilters Rule
(see picture below)

Your manual if you can find it. (Try hard, you may need it:-))

Bobbins full of machine quilting thread and empty bobbins

Scissors/nippers/small ruler

New needles 90 and 100 (universal)

Dark thread (good quality)
-
A darning, free motion or hopping foot as well as a a walking foot if
you have one. If you need to buy one, measure from the screw to the
bottom of the foot. If it is 1/2" or less, you need a low shank
foot. 1/2" to 1" is a high shank foot.

Single hole plate if you can't drop your feed dogs. If you don't have
one, use an index card.

Two fabric sandwiches to use for practices. Muslin is
fine. It should be 1 yd x WOF . Also bring something with
seams so you can get the feeling of sewing over seams
-
Pen and paper
Sherry will provide a variety of threads, different battings to try and
different types of fabric (quilt shop vs Wal-Mart) loose weave, and a
quality cotton like kona. She will also provide a variety of marking tools -
chalk, disappearing/wipe away pens and stencils, gripping tools etc so you
can try before you buy.
You will also need your glasses and an additional light if that will make
you more comfortable. Your comfort is important when machine quilting. You
need to relax and let the creativity flow. Bring a pillow to sit on if you
like.
Prepare to let your creative side burst with new learned skill!
Elementary Star
This class uses 1/2 yard of your favorite fabric as inspiration (try to
choose a multi colored medium to large scale print) from which you will
choose these coordinating fabrics:
Light - 1/2 yard
Medium One - 1/3 yard
Outer Border 1/2 yard (big print here or a directional)
Dark - 1/2 yard ( a dramatic accent)
You will also need a sewing machine in good working order, unless you
borrow one of ours. Don't forget the power cord and foot pedal!
You should also bring extra thread (gray is a good neutral color) pins,
scissors and/or thread snips, seam ripper, needle threader, fabric marking
pencil or pen, pen and paper for note-taking.
You won't need a rotary cutter, ruler or mat, as you will be using ours.
You might want to bring a pillow to sit on. If you forget or don't

Worry Birds
These birds are paper pieced. Bring the items to class
your normally use for sewing (sewing machine, thread, etc.) as well as the
specialty items you like to use for paper piecing (small rotary cutter and mat,
pins with small or flat heads, a quarter inch ruler, etc.) You can
probably make the birds from scraps. Here is what you will need:
