I would like to thank everyone for your calls and E-mails. The shop is FINE, although I suspect it is because my landlords wife went out and yelled at the rising flood waters. It stopped just a few feet from us. We were and are incredibly lucky. The water literally went around the shop on three sides - we are just enough of a knoll to survive. Our friends and neighbors are not so lucky!
If you haven't seen the news - and there hasn't been much about us, really as everyone seems to be in the same boat (no pun intended) - the Schoharie Valley had pretty much filled up with water due to Hurricane Irene. New York doesn't generally get hit with hurricanes, so no one expected the absolute devastation. And I say that without an ounce of melodrama. You really can't understand it from the pictures. You have to be here to see and smell it. Click on the picture thumbnails to see them up close.

As you may suspect, we have gone into full helping mode. All the charity quilts that have been donated in the past few weeks are now gracing beds in one of the shelters. We still have quite a number of tops, batting and backing kits that just need to be finished. If you are in the area and have the time, please stop and take one. Yes, the Red Cross and the surviving community has been extremely generous. But there is nothing like your very own quilt that someone took the time to make for you.

In addition, we have decided to hold our Food for Fats Friday a little early. This is the annual event we usually do the Friday after Thanksgiving but NOW might be a better time. So, bring in a non perishable food item anytime until September 10 and we will give you a free fat quarter. One can, bottle or box equals one fat quarter. No limit. The only restriction is that you have to choose from existing fat quarters. Please be generous. These are your friends and neighbors who have lost everything.

If you would like to donate something other than food, we do have a can for cash and gift cards. You can also mail a donation to SCAP, 795 East Main St, Cobleskill NY 120453. Please put "Flood Victims" in the memo line.
You can also text RFB to 20222 to make a $5 donation to the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern NY. With each $5 donation they are able to distribute $50 worth of food to people in need in the area.

Schoharie looks like a giant brown garage sale as
people put their debris curbside waiting for pickup.
PS - My daughter works for a recycling place. These are some of
the places where she found her bins - not all of them have shown up yet.
One of them had a very large dead fish in it which she thinks her father
will get out for her:-))
