Classes


This ongoing class is currently offered every Wednesday and Thursday from 3:00-5:00. Please choose which day is best for your schedule. In addition to projects covered in "Beginners to Go" more quilting techniques and more advanced patterns are taught. Strip piecing, half square triangles, flying geese, fussy cutting and Log Cabin will be introduced and accompanied by appropriate projects for extra practice. Student requests for additional projects and gift ideas are encouraged and always welcome. Cost ranges from $5 to $25 per project. Maximum of five students per class. Please bring sewing machine, usual tools and current project each week. Don't forget your supply of chocolate!

This six week course is designed to take the beginning quilter from accurate measuring and rotary cutting to piecing of a simple quilt. Projects have been selected which teach various sewing techniques necessary for quilting. Projects are: 10 Minute Table Runner, Pillowcase with piping and French Seams, Take 4 Placemats, and Yellow Brick Road Quilt. Class will begin on Friday, July 14 from 3:00-5:00 and will run every Friday thereafter for six weeks. Cost is $45 for the course, Minimum class size of 3 with room for 5. Please bring your sewing machine and usual sewing tools to each class. Chocolate is a must!

Lower your feed dogs and raise your creativity in this class taught by Tamara. This hands on class will provide the basic and beyond for machine quilting using your home sewing machine and the proper tools.

Please note that this is a technique class. We will not be able to apply bindings to quilts or other projects.

Borders can make or break a quilt. Do you want a straight border, a pieced border, a scalloped border, a mitered border, flanges, piping? We will show you how to add it and keep your quilt flat. Bring a panel and several choices you might use for borders. Also bring a retractable metal tape measure.

Learn how to accurately rotary cut, what all those lines on your ruler are for. Try before you buy by using our rotary cutter and rulers. We will also talk about fabric quality, straight of grain and whether or not to prewash.

Decide to tie, hand quilt or machine quilt your quilt. We will give you an overview of the three methods and help you with it in class, but this is not an in-depth methodology class.

Tips and tricks for adding a hanging sleeve, creating and attaching a label.

The importance of a 1/4" seam and how to find it. How to avoid overlapping seams, including twirling a seam for less bulk. Press for success! Setting a quilt or block on point.
