Beginner Boot Camp Supply List

This class for the beginner will take you through selecting fabrics, proper rotary cutting methods, making a perfect 1/4" seam, creating your own design (including setting a quilt on point), paper piecing, appliqué, and finishing the quilt (including binding).

If you have not purchased beginner supplies yet, wait until after our first class.  We will go through the advantages and disadvantages of various types and brands of fabric, notions and other supplies.  You will be able to practice using store products, but you will be expected to buy one yard of fabric in the first class.

Yes, we will be assigning homework!  To properly do your homework, you will need access to:

  • A clean sewing machine in good working order.  If you have just purchased one or are borrowing one for the class, make sure you know how it works.  Your machine should be cleaned first and have a new needle.

  • Basic sewing kit: good quality thread (gray is a good neutral color) pins, scissors and/or thread snips, seam ripper, hand sewing needles, needle threader.

  • Don't forget your glasses!

  • Not required but nice things to have: extra filled bobbins, extra machine needles, accessories, sewing machine extension table (if you use one), cleaning tools (oil, Q-tips, lint brush), rubber door stops to prop your machine or table towards you, OTT light and/or extra light bulb for your machine, sewing gauge, tape measure, thimble, fabric marking pencil or pen, paper marking pencil or pen.

  • Pillow to sit on, camera, chocolate.

  • An open mind and a desire to try something new

  • A willingness to have fun!
